First Annual Nerds Giving: Raising Money for At-Risk LGBTQ+ Youth

Nerdsmith.org is bringing the gaming and nerd communities together to raise money for LGBTQ+ Youth Suicide Prevention.

Modern media and social networks have opened new connections to LGBTQ+ youth, but with connection comes exposure. These youth endure and struggle with bullying, prejudice, ignorance, and hate. The Trevor Project harnesses these same technologies to advocate for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning youth. As the leading national organization providing LGBTQ+ crisis intervention and suicide prevention services, The Trevor Project supports thousands of youth every year and lobbies against anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.

Nerdsmith.org is assembling teams of heroes, curated from members of the podcasting, gaming, and streaming communities, to raise money to support the Trevor Project. Eleven teams have already answered the call and more people are joining every day. The annual fundraiser, Nerds Giving, runs from November 1 to November 15 each year.

“We built giving back into our business model.” says Nerdsmith Senior Director, Logan Bryce. “Everyone here at Nerdsmith actively works to foster a diverse and inclusive environment within the nerdy entertainment industry. Originally Nerds Giving was going to be an internal event, but once the community got wind of it, other professionals and hosts wanted to get involved. Now, we are asking for help to make our efforts go even further. Anyone who donates will have access to special bonus content produced by our shows, and there will be daily contests for donors.”

Those who wish to participate can find more information at Nerdsmith.org/nerds-giving.
