Hospitality and specialty coffee industry veteran Chef Kevin Kerkhof has announced plans to open a unique cafe this coming fall in his hometown of Greenfield, Indiana.
Hitherto Coffee & Gaming Parlour is a hybrid cafe, operating primarily as a full service specialty coffee and tea shop, while also offering an extended retail selection dedicated to tabletop board gaming.
Kevin is recognized in the gaming community as President and Owner of Quiver Gaming Gear, producing premium, proprietary gaming mats that convert regular tables into a professional gaming surface. Most recently, Quiver was selected by Cephalofair Games to produce the official Gloomhaven player mat. Kevin’s passion and career of culinary arts and gaming are now coming under one roof.
Kevin brings 25 years of experience in culinary adventures to showcase some of the finest coffees and teas from around the world. Most recently, he successfully opened and served for over 10 years as the Executive Chef and General Manager of Greyhouse Coffee & Supply Co. near Purdue University. His hope in the development of the Hitherto concept is to become a beloved community staple here as well.
“It’s about building community and providing excellence in hospitality,” Kevin says. “As a local business, this is extremely impactful and beneficial to the community as a whole: a place to come frequently and find refreshment, camaraderie, and engage in encouraging conversation and stimulation of the mind.”
The menu will be a collection of traditional coffee, espresso, and tea based drinks, as well as an ever-growing experiment of tonics and elixirs. Free-form savory and sweet pies, known as “galettes”, will be the foundation of food offerings initially, with artisan soft serve to complement the experience.
The cafe’s retail selection of hobby board games will focus on the best of modern games being released, in addition to a solid collection of familiar classics. Hitherto will host game events for general play and for customers to learn new games.
Hitherto is currently running a campaign on Kickstarter through September 17th for patrons to follow the progress of the shop’s opening and to take an active part in helping it come to life. It will be opening this coming fall in the Green Meadows shopping center at 1558 N State St.
