Something New in our RPG Column
Some of our readers may have noticed that we've been posting fewer game reviews lately. This was a weekly focus of this column, and it will continue to be one of the focuses--but we are going to dial it back a bit. Over the past few months we've been taking some time to retool the column to include a somewhat broader focus than what we previously have done. We mostly focused on reviews of role-playing games past and present for the past 2 years, and the occasional interview with game designers and sometimes previews of upcoming products.
In addition to the things that we have been doing, we want to back off from the emphasis on tabletop RPG reviews, and write more about our thoughts as players and game masters. We plan to publish a series of articles on a wider variety of topics that will give advice on running games, more articles featuring game industry developers, and even some articles about the crossover between role-playing games and other genres like war games and board games.
One of our first focuses will be a series of articles on running RPGs, particularly on Dungeons and Dragons on a weekly basis when you and your friends just can't get your schedules to match up or when you don't have the time. This series is based on my experience running a weekly game for a year on and off (with some on weekends when we had to attend gaming and comic conventions. In the coming weeks and months, we'll have a wider range of articles.
We hope that you and our other readers will enjoy the coming changes.
