Last Sunday, April 24, 2016, was the beginning of Season 6 of Game of Thrones. It was also a significant day, since it was the beginning of the Game of Thrones trivia night at MiniBar Chicago.
With only days to plan, our trivia night and viewing event team was headed up by AllGeeks HQ founder - Adam Guerrino, with the goal of turning the season opener into an event we will never forget! The team also included yours truly as one of the hosts, and the creative minds of the new management of MiniBar Chicago, as well as some performances by some AllGeeks HQ members.
The trivia portion was well-received with 13 teams competing. The contest was divided into 2 parts with 3 categories each. A little break in between for grabbing drinks and checking answers before moving on to the next portion. Not a Game of Thrones fan? Not to worry – the questions are divided into categories, and it starts from something easy to something a bit more hard core for the die-hard fans of the show. The trivia game debut with the category “Bernie or Danae”, in which players were given a line and had to tell whether it was said by Bernie Sanders or Daenerys Targaryen.
The theme doesn’t just stop with the trivia. The drinks menu was all the rage, as it was inspired by the show.
My personal favorite is “Blood of the Dragon” (Absolute Orient Apple, Midori, Ginger Ale), and the other crowd favorite is “Dire Wolf” (Redd’s cider and Black Raspberry liquer). Those are just 2 of the 10 different drinks being served that night.
Trivia was followed by the viewing of the show. Game of Thrones fans need not to worry on missing out, since it was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop when the show started, and there are 4 big screen tvs in the bar area.
The night ended with performances from Alexis Bevels, who performed as Sansa Stark; and Kat Sass who performed a number as the “Shame Nun”.
It’s just going to keep better! What’s in store for this Sunday? Well, let’s just say that we’re working on a piece of furniture and that the houses will be well represented ;)
