I met David Zoltan a while back - almost 2 years to be exact, and I have come across him in numerous geek events around the Chicago-land area.
Dave, along with an awesome team of geeks, created Geek Bar Beta - a place where you can "Come In, Geek Out!". For more than a year, Geek Bar Beta has become the go- to places for geek- themed meetups and parties.
A lot of noteable events are C2E2 pre and post parties, Geek Girl Brunch events, and the upcoming International Sailor Moon Day in August.
Unfortunately, the venue has been hit with a few hardships this year. In order to keep the bar afloat, David and his team have come up with different ways on how Chicago's geek community can help out- They're holding afundraising event tomorrow , and there's also a GoFundMe.com website where you can give your donations.
Over the first two days, they already had 128 supporters contributing $5,300.00! Here's the link to the website. Last time I checked this afternoon at 3pm, they are at $7,612.00

Here are more details for the upcoming event, which starts tomorrow at 12nn-
We’re throwing a “Damn the Man, Save the Geek Bar!” party July 25th from noon to 5 PM at Geek Bar Beta.
We’ll be showing movies and introducing our recently announced Day Walker cocktail special: a cocktail designed by our team of Alchemists from noon to 3 PM for just $5. Plus, all Revolution Brewing beers will also be just $5.
Now until July 31st, we’re offering a very special burger. A single-patty Royale with Cheese will be available for you to show your support by paying whatever you want (regular value: $8). We want to give you a way to support us in any way you can and get something tasty in return.
PLUS! For $5 per ticket, you can enter a raffle to win prizes like passes to and swag from Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, tickets to The Richard H. Driehaus Museum , and more!
*If you have something you would like to donate to be raffled or auctioned off, info@geekbarchicago.com.*
We are holding a silent auction! Items up for bid include:
– A custom dinner for 2 designed by our Archmage of Fire, Chef Joshua Mutchnick, including a beaker of wine! – Dates with various members of the Geek Bar staff! (does not include cost of date activity) – Our Mage, Chris, will come to your home and prepare a meal while teaching you how to cook it (ingredients not included.) – Free game rentals for LIFE! – Or pick a future Geeky Trivia category!
Not enough? We’re making ALL gaming during the party FREE.
Plus, Annette Bjorling will be playing . . . geeky tunes on a harp? Yep. You better believe it.
We appreciate the incredible outpouring of support already coming in, and we know so many of you want us to stick around and keep providing a place where we can all celebrate and foster geek culture in all its forms. We hope you’ll take these opportunities to help us serve the geek community for years to come.
Damn the man. Save the Geek Bar.

Knowing that Chicago has such a strong and supportive geek community, I am very optimistic that they will be able to reach their campaign goals.
Don't forget to show your support tomorrow at Geek Bar Beta from 12nn to 5:00pm at 1941 W North St., Chicago, IL.
