"The Last Witch Hunter" Preview

Geeks A Gogo got to sit in on an advance screening of Vin Diesel's new movie, "The Last Witch Hunter". We had heard a lot about this film--and how Vin's love for the game Dungeons and Dragons wast the impetus for this film.

His character is actually based on a character that he played as a child, which you can read more about here. With that in mind, we can safely say that if you're a typical geek, who enjoys a good fantasy/action film, then this movie is up your alley.

Check out this video from the Nerdist that they released a few days ago, where Vin Diesel uses his character from the movie in an actual Dungeons and Dragons Campaign.

The film follows Kaulder (Vin Diesel), an immortal witch hunter from the middle ages, as he combats witches and warlocks living in secret in modern-day New York. In his quest against the users of dark magic, he has the help of church officials Dolan 36 (Michael Caine), and Dolan 37 (Elijah Wood), as well as the help of a young witch named Cloe (Rose Leslie).

The film provides the sort of satisfaction that you expect in a typical action movie, but with a flair that fans of medieval fantasy would enjoy: magic, sword play, and monsters. It had the feel of a more grown-up Harry Potter film, mixing magic hidden just out of sight in a modern-day city--but with the action that fans of Vin Diesel's films expect to see. And it has cool fire-swords:

And the cast is definitely going to please geeky movie-goers, with so many actors and actresses from other roles in fantasy and comic book movies and shows.

Vin Disel, is of course known for his role as Groot in "Guardians of the Galaxy", as well as his popular role in the "Fast and the Furious" franchise. Lead acress Rose Leslie is more well known for her role as Jon Snow's Wildling lover, Ygritte on "Game of Thrones". Michael Caine is known for many roles throughout his career, but most recently comicbook fans will remember his excellent performance as Alfred in "Batman Begins", "The Dark Knight", and "The Dark Knight Rises". And of course, Elijah Wood was part of the group in this adventure--much like in his role as Frodo in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

In conclusion, this is a great movie if you're a geek like we are.

"The Last Witch Hunter" is rated PG-13, and opens on Friday, October 23rd. Check your local theater for showings.
